Q. I've been watching HGTV and I notice that almost all of the homes have pool enclosures, like sunrooms enclosing their pool areas. Why?

A. It keeps it from getting too hot, and the one's with a screen are great for keeping bugs, frogs, snakes, and in some areas even alligators out of your pool. Much easier to maintain. Q. Need Hot tub expert's advice and input! We are looking into getting a free (basically we pick up) spa. Its a 2005 Caldera Spas Hot tub - Cumberland. The original owner said that the problem with the hot tub is on one of the electrical boards that controls the heat. Our local Hot Springs dealer told them it would be around $1000 to fix. My husband is pretty handy and wouldn't mind taking on this repair. Do you think it would be an easy repair for someone? Do you know if Caldera Spas have the full foam insulation much like Hot Springs? Where is a good online retailer of parts and also have good support for DIY'ers? Any other tips for moving the spa home, the owner has kept water in it and the water moving so it doesn't freeze, they are just done with all the hassle and want it gone. I'm not very impressed with our local dealership, so would not want to work with them anyway. :)

A. I looked for a manual on line for one of these tubs, but couldn't find one. I had a pool and spa business for 6 years, and could fix anything, provided I could get the parts. You should try to contact Caldera, so you can get the part from them. But you need to know what is exactly wrong with it. So you're husband will need to trace back from the heater to determine the problem. You might try these guys also.

Q. Our developer is planning on expanding our subdivision. I would like to know how many homes our Jr. Olympic pool will take care of. I don't want him to crowd the pool.

A. You need to call the town and ask a bylaw officer to swing by and rate the pool. My not-so-jr.-olympic-pool services my gang just fine... lol... :)

Q. The heater in our hot tub is not working. We would like to put in a natural gas dedicated hot water heater and wonder if a "tankless" model would work by just recycling the water? It would be a lot cheaper than buying a new hot tub heater. Plumbing not a problem...just don't know if this would work. Thanks in advance.

A. Well, put that way, I don't see why it wouldn't work, however, I would turn it down when not in it so heater doesn't run constantly.

Q. Its been really windy, and a glass table tipped over, sending glass everywhere. It went into our pool, pool deck, rock mulch, pinestraw (pine needle mulch) and grass. The pool deck will be relatively easy to sweep, but what about cleaning everything else, especially our pool? We live in Goldsboro NC, is there a company that might do this kind of work? Also, will we have to drain our pool, because that is a major pain, and costly. Thanks.

A. You should be able to vacuum up all of the glass. the pieces that fell in the pool should be in one area of the pool and can also be vacuumed out. Don't empty the pool. You could rent a pump from a local rental company that will work for the pool glass. Any water you pump from the pool when sucking out the glass needs to be run through a strainer prior to being returned to the pool. Use a shop vac for the glass in the pine straw and deck areas.

Q. What is the best pool cleaning service in Phoenix, AZ? I'm buying a house that has a pool that is a MESS. I need it drained, cleaned, and refilled.

A. Check your local craigslist.com Type in the search area: pool service, or pool cleaner You may not know who you are getting. Call your local pool store and ask them to recommend someone to you. You can do it yourself, but it will be time consuming. :-)

Q. My husband and I have been working with our local pool company to get our in-ground pool cleaned up and ready to use for the summer for the past month. We've put in all the chemicals they requested, have a tiger shark "swimming" around in the pool to clean up any floor debris, and have been letting our pump run and back-washing it once a day. But our water is still turquoise and not clear. We can barely see the bottom of the pool. Any suggestions on how to clear up our water?
